Lap Joint Flanges

  • Lap Joint Flanges

Key Features:

Two-Piece Design: Consists of a loose flange and a stub end that are bolted together. The pipe is welded to the stub end, while the flange is free to rotate around the pipe, making alignment easier.
Adjustability: The loose flange design allows for easy rotation and alignment, simplifying the process of connecting bolts to the mating flange.
Corrosion Resistance: The flange itself does not come into contact with the fluid, so it can be made of a less expensive material than the stub end, reducing costs in corrosive environments.

Common Types:

Standard Lap Joint Flange: The most common type, used in general applications where flexibility and alignment are key.
Raised Face Lap Joint Flange: Features a raised surface around the bolt holes to improve sealing, commonly used in higher-pressure systems.
Flat Face Lap Joint Flange: Has a flat surface around the bolt holes, typically used for lower-pressure applications.

Standards and Specifications:

ANSI/ASME B16.5: Standard for pipe flanges and flanged fittings, including lap joint flanges, specifying dimensions and tolerances.
ASTM A105: Specification for carbon steel forged fittings for piping applications.
ASTM A182: Standard for alloy and stainless steel pipe flanges, fittings, and valves.
ISO 9001: Quality management system standard ensuring consistent manufacturing and quality control.
